A Wrench in the “Work”… Some help, perhaps?
When I made the decision to leave the classroom at the end of last year, I knew it was the right decision. I still do. I was able to find a job after many months of looking, and while it wasn’t the perfect set-up, it came at exactly the right moment. I’m so incredibly grateful that God blessed me and my family with my job. It was a wonderful opportunity…until it wasn’t.
The job I took was a hybrid position that required me to drive to Irving, TX, three times a week. That’s about a two-hour commute through both Ft. Worth and Dallas County traffic. It’s not pleasant by any means, but being able to work from home two days a week made it bearable. It was a new office, and the employees were hired before a manager was found. We were able to get ourselves established, and we ran the office for a month before the new manager was hired.
When the manager was hired, she soon set up a meeting to go over with us the “vision” of the office. In short, we were told that the office would no longer be hybrid. We would work entirely from the Irving location. If driving there just three days a week was hard, every day would be incredibly difficult. We were given shifts to choose from, so I chose one that would be four 10-hour days. But, in order to get in 10 hours, I will need to leave my house before 5:00 a.m. and will likely get home at around 8:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday. This shift begins tomorrow.
I’m honestly not sure I can do it for very long. I’m going to try because my family needs the income, but I need to look for something else, which brings me to the point of this post.
I’m getting a tutoring business up and running and doing freelance writing and editing, but it takes time to build up a client list. So, in the meantime, I need some steady work. If anyone is aware of a position that is either remote or at least west of Ft. Worth, I would love more information. I have a varied background that includes corporate travel, marketing for a textbook company, training, editing, and education. In my current job, I’m an AI Writing Specialist (I’m helping to train AI systems for corporate clients).
I never thought I would go out and solicit help from social media, but I’m learning that harnessing a network of people who know me may be the thing I need to do. I’m doing my own searches, but I’m hoping someone may be able to point me to an opportunity that I’m not able to find in the traditional way.
Thank you all so much!
